KONAMI CORPORATION |
| The Japan Professional Baseball Players Association ("Players Association"), announced in a press release dated August 26th that it has filed a complaint against the Nippon Professional Baseball Organization ("Baseball Organization") and KONAMI CORPORATION ("Konami") with the Tokyo District Court. According to the press release, the complaint seeks confirmation that neither the Baseball Organization nor Konami have rights to sublicense the use of individual names or likenesses of professional baseball players in the production or distribution of baseball video game software. The press release also states that the complaint seeks an injunction against Konami's distribution of baseball video game software. As Konami has not yet been served the complaint, it is not in position to provide further comment. However, the issue of the right to use the likeness of professional baseball players has been covered by the mass media. It is regrettable the Players Association has involved Konami as a defendant in its legal action against the Baseball Organization, however, Konami sincerely hopes that this issue will be satisfactorily and swiftly resolved between the Baseball Organization and the Players Association. |
