Coral Preservation

Periodically every year, the Konami Sports Club Diving School plants new coral in the seas around Okinawa as part of coral reef preservation measures. While taking care not to disturb the surrounding coral, visitors and staff from the Diving School use their bare hands to plant each coral plant.

Procedures for Coral Planting

The coral plants, which have been grown in the sea, are carefully planted one by one.

The coral plants are carefully cleaned using brushes. Each coral plant is secured by screws to prevent it from being swept away by currents.

Cages are placed over the coral plants to protect them from predators such as crown-of-thorns starfish. The planted coral continues to grow year after year, and will become larger than the cage.
