KONAMI's Approach to Preventing Global Warming

Promotion of Modal Shift

Modal shift is a transport changeover from trucks to transport by railway or ship that are more environmentally friendly and produce less of an environmental burden from exhaust gasses and other pollutants.
KONAMI is actively pursuing modal shift as part of its efforts on environmental protection, having shifted from truck to rail transport from January 2005.

Results of reduction in CO2 emissions from implementation of modal shift

  FY2006 FY2007 FY2008 FY2009 FY2010 FY2011
Amount of reduction  (Unit: tons) 110.07 151.98 107.24 130.84 154.85 179.91
Conversion to an annual amount of CO2 absorption by cedar trees(*)  (Unit: trees) 7,862 10,855 7,660 9,345 11,060 12,850

(*) Calculated on the assumption as one 50-year-old cedar tree absorbing approx. 14 kg of CO2 per year (according to “Sink Measures to Prevent Global Warming” by the Ministry of the Environment and the Forestry Agency).

KONAMI is participating in the Super Green Shuttle Line project (a joint project by JR Freight and railway common carriers) through accreditation by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
